Gary Bertrand Same guy, different instrument
Gary was born at Fort Hood Texas while his father,("Papa" Joe Bertrand), was in the Army. The third of four children, Gary started his musical career as a Country and Western guitarist and singer at the age of 13. Though raised at the Cajun dances, he didn't give much thought to actually playing Cajun music. That was until Papa Joe challenged him to learn a particullar song on his accordion. Gary spent a few weeks figuring out the dynamics of the french accordion, and after that ( and much to the surprise of Papa Joe) Gary could pretty much play almost any song he heard, with little effort. Learning to play the french accordion was something new and interesting to Gary, and just plain fun. To him it was a hobbie until he caught the eye of Jack Jagneaux, a left handed fiddle player and seasoned musician. Jack saw a passion in Gary's playing and a potiential for him to become a premier Cajun artist. Between Jack and Papa Joe, Gary was tutored and polished by these two"old time" musicians and has become a well respected Cajun musician in his own rite. With his Touch of Cajun Band, Gary has performed his style of traditional Cajun music all around the southeastern United States, and is already booked in Las Vegas, Nevada February 2001. A man with strong ties to Cajun traditions and his heritage, Gary has earned the respect of his peers and the admiration of his many friends he has met along the way.
